FAQ / Troubleshooting

Q: What should I do if the step counter is not working properly?

A: There are several steps that will fix accuracy problems for most devices:

  1. Inside of "Pedometer Preferences", set the mode to be "Default Mode" as this is generally the most accurate
  2. Also inside of "Pedometer Preferences", turn ON the "Step Counter Notification" - this will allow the app to be more stable when your screen is off.
  3. Add our app to the “Ignore list" of memory cleaning or speed boosting tools like "Clean Master" or "Cleaner" to ensure proper functioning. Tools like these are known to prevent step counters from working properly.
  4. If your phone is from Samsung and you chose "Use Your Phone's Built-in Step Counter" inside of "Pedometer Preferences", please restart your phone since some of the Samsung users reported this helped to get the step number right.

Unfortunately, a minority of Android devices simply cannot count steps. This is not a software bug, but a hardware limitation. If you find this is the case with your device, please send us an e-mail and we'll do our best to investigate how we can support your device in the future.

Q: What should I do if the app uses too much battery?

A: We designed Pacer to be able to count steps for an entire typical day on most Android devices. However, if you find that the app is using too much battery you can try going to "Pedometer Preferences" and changing the mode to either "Battery Saving Mode" or "User Your Phone's Built-in Step Counter” (if it’s supported on your device). These two modes both reduce battery use significantly, but they may not work accurately on all types of phones due to Android system limitations.

Q: How do I remove the small shoe icon at the top of my screen?

A: By default, Pacer will display the current day's step count as an ongoing notification, which is why you see that small shoe icon. This notification helps ensure that the step counter continue to function even when your screen is off. If you want to turn off the notification, you may do so in "Pedometer Preferences". Please note that due to Android system limitations, this might affect step counter accuracy on some types of phones.

Q: Can I reset my steps?

A: Pacer is intended to count your steps all day long and give a complete picture of your daily activity. Steps that have been recorded by the step counter cannot be reset. However, you may pause the step counter at any time from the "Activity" page if you do not want it to count steps.
